Piasau Slipways Sdn Bhd

The story of Piasau Slipways Sdn Bhd began at Lot 516, Piasau Industrial Estate on October 17, 1977 during the time of wooden and metal boats revolution in Miri. Like other shipyards, this Company was building tugboats, barges and small vessels and providing ship repairs services. However, as the economy becomes diversified, more vessels are needed to transport timber products, offshore project cargoes, heavy equipments, sand and stones aggregates.

For economic reason, Piasau Slipways Sdn Bhd constructed a new shipyard at Lot 523, Kuala Baram to build larger landing crafts, hopper barges to serve the shipping needs of its related companies and public including foreign market. Since then, Piasau Slipways Sdn Bhd continues to grow leaves and bounds and eventually succeeds in tapping the marine industry's market in this region.

Piasau Slipways Sdn. Bhd. has been approved a MANUFACTURING LICENCE (A 014550) in 1995 by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia to construct tugboats, barges, landing craft and cargo ships in Malaysia. Piasau Slipways Sdn Bhd holds the membership of association of Marine Industries of Malaysia since 1999. In 2003, Piasau Slipways Sdn Bhd obtained the ISO 9002 certification in ship building and maintenance and related metal fabrication activities.

Since 1996, the shipyard has constructed and fabricated more than 100 vessels which includes motor launch, dump barges, hopper barges, coastal and deep sea tugboats, landing crafts, container vessels and oil tankers for domestic and overseas market.

Furthermore, Piasau Slipways Sdn Bhd with a total work force of 800 boosts of having a wealth of marine related expertise such as in the areas of marine fabrication and maintenance which has assisted the State to earn foreign revenue by its international trade.The shipyard is set to become a main regional player in the shipbuilding industry - prospect which was only a dream not too long ago.

Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd

With the aggressive development of the oil and gas industry, technology in welding and fabrication, shipyards began to appear in Miri during this period as technology and development warrant it. A case in point is Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd, another related shipyard of Shin Yang Group of Companies commenced its operation in 1999 involving in vessels construction, repairs, fabrications for the local market as well as the international market.

In 2003, Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd obtained the ISO 9002 certification in ship building and maintenance and related metal fabrication activities.

It has a total force of 700 comprising each of their specialized expertise of work.

Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd is approved with the followings:

  • Industrial Coordination Committee (ICC) Sarawak for :
  • - Shipbuilding and construction of tugboats, barges, landing crafts, cargo ships, offshore utility vessel and oil and chemical tanker.

    - Ship repair/maintenance.

    - Repair and servicing of logging machineries and earthmoving vehicles.

    - Teel fabrication for factories, bridges and wharves.

  • Contractor Registration with Ministry of Finance, Malaysia - Category 190299 & 220107 Shipyard Licence Class AA.

  • An ordinary member of the Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM) No.OM 0067/02.

  • ISO 9000 - 2002 certified.
