Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit Sdn. Bhd. (PPK) managed and operated the Sarawak River Barrage & Shiplock. Kuching Barrage Management Sdn Bhd is our client in this project. The project was completed in year 2000.

The main objectives of the Sungai Sarawak Regulation scheme are:

• To provide communication links to sejingkat and Pending Isthmus.

• To regulate the river water level upstream of the barrage.

• To reduce the transport of muddy sediments to the foreshores of Santubong and Damai.

• To mitigate fluvial and tidal flooding in Kuching.

• To secure Kuching water supply.

The Sungai Sarawak Regulation Scheme involves closure of the river by 2 causeways, construction of a tidal exclusion barrage with integral ship locking facility and a bridge over the barrage, under which shipping must pass when utilising the lock. The proposed Scheme components will have implications for shipping activity in different ways.

The closure of Sg. Sarawak will bring a complete halt to all river traffic by this route to destinations upstream of the causeway. In order to provide navigational access by this route, a shiplock is incorporated within the barrage.
